Amazon Won't Be Death Star To HQ2 Winner

It's not just that Amazon's "HQ2" would be one of the biggest economic-development plums ever.

To every governor and mayor and countless CEOs and entrepreneurs and software engineers in Flyover Country, it's the fact that Amazon seems to own the present and more than likely will own even more of the future. To ride into the next decade with the Death Star of e-commerce fueling your bricks-and-mortar community would be one of the most comfortable situations on earth.

Look at Chicago. Don't you thnik Rahm Emanuel would immediately swap Amazon's seondary headquarters for, say, Sears? Or even Allstate? Maybe even McDonald's?

Scott Walker got Foxconn. But don't you think he'd rather have Amazon with its 50,000 high-tech workers ...
